7 Best Kid‑Friendly Malls in Porto for Indoor Play and Family Fun

Porto is a fantastic city for families, but finding truly kid‑friendly malls with indoor play can make or break a rainy day (or a hot afternoon) with little ones.

In this guide to the 6 best kid‑friendly malls in Porto, you’ll find shopping centers that don’t just tick the boxes for shops and restaurants, but also offer play areas, kids’ entertainment and practical family facilities like stroller space, high chairs and changing tables.

Whether you are looking for an indoor playground to let toddlers burn off energy, a food court that actually works with young children, or a mall where parents can shop while kids are happily occupied, this Porto family mall guide highlights the top options, with clear pros and cons for each.

NorteShopping

NorteShopping is one of the largest shopping centres in northern Portugal, with a wide range of well-known brands including H&M, Zara, Primark and Sandro.

The mall is very family-friendly, with a children’s area that includes slides, a carousel, small cars and strollers for rent. You will need to download an app to unlock the strollers. The carousel and cars are paid attractions and require cash, with change machines that accept 5 and 10 euro notes.

It gets quite busy on weekends and rainy days, so visiting on a weekday can be more comfortable. On the top floor, there is a large food court offering plenty of options, from sushi and wraps to traditional Portuguese dishes. The centre has extensive indoor and outdoor parking, plus a large Continente hypermarket for groceries.

Access by car can be a bit tricky due to local traffic, so taking the metro to Sete Bicas station (about a 10‑minute walk) is often easier.

💡 Insider Tip: There’s a small LEGO store where kids can play with different brick sizes.

🕙 Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 10am to 11pm, for both stores and restaurants.

Shopping Cidade do Porto

Medium‑sized mall with 3 floors, easy to navigate and laid out so you can get around without feeling lost. The outside looks a bit outdated, but the interior is actually fine, with a good mix of shops and services.

Wide variety of stores: children’s clothing, cosmetics, sofas and homeware, plus bookstores, clothing and footwear, as well as handy services like alterations and a laundry. The mall also has parking, a supermarket and a gym.

The food court has only a few food options (basically McDonald’s and a couple more places) and it’s quite dark and noisy, so not the cosiest spot to eat with little ones.

High chairs and changing facilities are on the lower ground floor, where you can also find children’s games scattered around – just remember to bring cash.

Overall, I’d treat Shopping Cidade do Porto as a convenient backup or “last resort” mall with kids, rather than somewhere to plan a full family afternoon on purpose.

🕙 Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 10am to 11pm, for most stores and the food court, although some stores might close at 10pm.

MAR Shopping Matosinhos

MAR Shopping is the biggest mall in Porto, with +200 stores, IKEA and the largest Auchan supermarket in town. Corridors are very wide compared to NorteShopping, so it never feels crowded. There’s plenty of parking space and it’s easily reached by public transport.

Large food court, with restaurants offering a wide range of food options. There’s also a candy floss machine on the 1st floor, which is great for kids.

The playground pictured above is suitable for toddlers and babies. It has a bridge, a small slide, a swing and some big shapes for babies to play with. You can even rent cars, which toddlers can ‘’drive’’ around, as there’s plenty of space.

The LEGO Fan Factory is a play space, not a retail store. It’s a 550–600 m² supervised play zone where kids (about 3–10 years) stay up to 2 hours for free, building with LEGO and climbing walls.

💡 Insider Tip: For me they have the best baby changing facilities and breastfeeding rooms of all the malls in the area.

🕙 Opening Hours: From 10am to 11pm, but check the opening hours of the LEGO Fan Factory before going, as it’s different from the mall.

Time Out Market: Perfect Stop by São Bento Station

Time Out Market sits right next to São Bento Station. We walked there (10 min) from the Porto Puppet Museum and had one of our best family meals in Porto. It’s not a mall per say, but it’s a big space where you can eat while the kids play safely and as it’s in the centre town, I thought it was worth mentioning it.

On the ground floor you’ll find traditional Portuguese food, while the first floor has Brusco Burger and Okra Pizzaria, which serve some of the best burgers and pizzas in town. We ordered from both, and the kids were thrilled—especially with the fries.

The first floor is great for families: more space, less crowd, and kids can move around safely while watching the trains come and go. There are high chairs and baby-changing facilities.

Downstairs there’s a kitchen-themed play area with enough seating for parents to relax while kids play. Outside, a large, safe open area lets children run around, while you enjoy your meal if the weather allows.

💡 Insider Tip: There’s a cash machine on the right when you enter, although the market doesn’t accept cash. 🙄

🕙 Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 10am to 12am.
